The Beas Kund – Origin of Beas River

Beas Kund is a high altitude alpine lake that sits royally amidst the mountains of Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 3,700 meters. It is the origin of the River Beas. At a distance of 28 km from Manali Bus Stand and 15 km from Solang Valley, Beas Kund a historic place, it is believed that Sage Vyas used to take his daily bath here; Beas Kund is hence regarded as sacred by the Hindus.

The site has attracts thousands of devotees every year. The current name Beas is formed from Sage Vyas who is the author of Mahabharata. The ancient Indians called the Beas River as Vipas or Arjiki while the ancient Greeks called it as Hyphasis.

Beas Kund trek is one of the most popular and beautiful trek in Kullu Valley. Solang Nalla base camp is 13 km from Manali and 1 hour drive, a popular place for tourists for ski slopes, para gliding etc.This is enjoyable and easy going trek for any age group. The Beas Kund Trek, which is considered as one of the easiest treks in the Himachal Himalayan region is also a short trek of three days.

Program ( 3 days )

  • Day 1

    Manali to Dundhi

    Once you visit in manali this is the best opportunity drive to Dundhi 20 kms from manali. From dundhi trek starts along with the banks of the river Beas its gradual and flat ascent to the camp bakerthatch . sometime we need to cross the river beas. Sometime local peoples and shepherd makes improvise bridge there to cross river.While you start the trek from Dundhi you can see the views of Deo Tibba, Indrasan Peak and Hanuman Tibba.

  • Day 2

    Bakerthach (3300 mtr to Beas Kund(3650mtrs) then back to camp. (6-7 hours)

    The second day of the trek from Bakerthach is little more steep and incline to get on the ridge ,from there natural beauty of surrounding snow claded peaks. After that there rocky terrain and easy walk to the lake on the way many streams are flowing in meandering way. This small lake is the Beas Kund, and is considered to be the origin of the river Beas. The melting of the alpine glacier along the way to the kund is the reason of inception of this little kund or lake.

    Once you will get access on the lake you enjoy the the mesmerizing views of the Dhauladhar range, you can witness heart wrenching summits around the lake like Hanuman tibba, Shitidhar, Makerbeh, and Shikhar Beh.

  • Day 3

    Bakerthach to Dhundhi/Solang/Manali

    Now today we will follow the same trail to starting point Dundhi. Then drive back back to Manali by taxi. On the way back to Manali we can stop at Sollang Valley if the people are interested for adventure activity.
